Essential Tools for the Paraprofessional, Parts I and II

Registration and Details: https://cvent.me/N32b38

This two-part workshop was held over from the 2022 ESP Conference, rescheduled for May 9, and is presented by Cynthia Lucero, Professor, NHTI-Concord’s Comm. College. The many facets of paraprofessionals’ work require a wide variety of skills and knowledge. Come join experienced educator Cynthia Lucero as she shares some of the essential knowledge that skillful paraprofessionals have.

In part I of this two-part session, we will discuss:

  • Paraprofessional’s roles and responsibilities including the various paraprofessional roles and duties and how they contribute to student and school success.
  • Strategies for communicating and collaborating with colleagues. With so many different professionals working in schools, knowing how and when to communicate and with whom you should be communicating can be tricky to navigate. Cynthia will share ideas about how to work together and stay on the same page to ensure student success.
  • Feedback to students. Cynthia will share the key elements of effective feedback to students and how to craft your feedback to include these critical elements.

In part II…

Many paraprofessionals’ roles include working with students who have disabilities and who might have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The field of special education can seem confusing and full of acronyms. As a former director of special education, Cynthia will explain:

  • Special Education Process and Law, including the categories for disabilities and the processes and laws governing student referrals.
  • Accommodations and Modifications and how to adjust curriculum students are expected to learn and the ways in which they experience and learn the curriculum.
  • Behavior Support and Intervention: Some students need additional support for developing positive, pro-social behaviors. Cynthia will provide an overview of the process of supporting students as well as additional resources for support.

This event is held on Zoom. Part I is from 5-6:30 PM. There will be a half hr dinner break from 6:30-7. From 7-8:30, we will hold Part II. You may attend both parts or just one. Pricing is: $0/members, $15/non-members. PLEASE REGISTER TODAY!
